Vision Session of KIC

Vision Session  of KIC with Kurt Nielsen

The day started with brunch. Each one came with food for the common table. It was the usual time of greeting each other, of speaking personal concerns and helping to clean up. Then we had the worship service with Pastor Michael Markussen leading and preaching. It was wonderful to see a gathered congregation of 56 persons- children, adults and youth. Then the vision session started at 14.00. Kurt, the expert on SCRUM, a principle or strategy of developing an organization for effective function, led the session. He started with a game, enabling participants to act and analyze their action and function towards a common goal.

He explained the principles of Scrum Master with the use of characters in chess game. Kurt was equipped with concrete teaching aids.  Later each one got the chance to write down her/his  thoughts and ideas in relation to the five group of concerns that the church should be dealing with: 1. Worship life and fellowship 2. Education and Nurture 3. Social Events (opening the fellowship to those of other faiths) 4. Mission, solidarity and compassion 5. Others

It was very quick for participants to respond to the call. Each one submitted their ideas and Kurt and Michael put them on the assigned group of concerns. To give value to each group of ideas that were laid out on the table, each one worked further on to put some blocks which functioned as valued valutas to each group of ideas and concerns. It seemed a step towards prioritizing the given ideas. It was amazing to hear the richness of ideas and concerns that were written and submitted. There was a general comment on the process and the product.

Each one filled up a form, identifying the area of work he/she would like to give time or participate in. Elizabeth will put  together the result of session with the specified interests for involvement. The product will be presented to the church council meeting this week and will be made available on the KIC website for the members and all those interested to support the cross-cultural ministry.

It was a great day. The international congregation is claiming ownership of the life and ministry of the church by giving expressions of their ideas and desires and commitment in action. The vision session  is just the beginning.

Bible studies

Many questions about God and our relationship to him can come up. We try to deal with those questions in our Bible study group. We discuss very basic and core concepts of Christianity.

As we are very different people from all sorts of backgrounds, we focus on those things that classic Christianity have agreed on, but normally only deal in passing with topics that are specific for any denomination.

We are inviting people to participate in the fall semester. Everybody is welcome, who wants to participate in a positive spirit.

Worship Service  in English  on the 3rd of June

Worship service in  English is every  first Sunday of the month at 1 p.m.  See you on the 3rd  of June. The Rev. Michael Markussen will be conducting the worship service and  preaching the Word.

Coffee and tea will be served after the service. Please join the fellowship. The presence of some Danes in this worship service has been a welcoming gesture for the foreigners. There are foreigners in this fellowship who cannot speak the Danish language as their term of stay in the country is short. There are those who have struggled to learn the language and who by  informal friendly encounters with some Danes in church setting, manage to get help for their integration into the Danish society.

Bible Study 2012

The next Bible study follows a new schedule for the year 2012, taking into consideration Kurt's available time.  Instead of having it in the evenings, it has been decided to hold it after brunch. Those who have time to stay for an hour or longer after brunch are welcome to participate in the study at Simon Peters Church, Islandsvej 12, Kolding.

The study is in English, often participated in by students and interested Christians who would like to deepen their understanding on biblical texts in the light of life's own situation and events in our time.  See  here...

Come and share this fellowship of study, friendship and prayer. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.

Brunch on the 20th  of May

The next brunch fellowship  is on the 20th  of May  at 12.15 .  As usual, we bring our food for the common table. There will be a short reflection followed by a common meal. Brunch also gives the possibility of sharing concerns and facts  of someone's country of origin.  Last month it was Anita Varga who by  a power point presentation, introduced her country, Hungary. There were also other few Hungarians who joined in the fellowship. The presentation was well received that it led into a very lively discussion,  partly bringing in the historic relationship between Denmark and Hungary.

As usual, brunch fellowship  serves as forum for building bridges of friendship and service in spite of differences in religion, language and culture. This is an invitation to you.

Language Cafe /Sprogcafe every Thursday

Language Cafe continues every Thursday from 15.30 to 17.30.  Four regular Danish volunteers are giving their time to help foreigners brush up or learn their Danish language. The program is open to any refugee, foreigner or immigrant who is concerned to improve her/his  acquisition of the Danish language both written and spoken.

Summer Excursion to Flensborg, Saturday, 16th of June

Every summer KIC arranges an excursion to different places in the country, an exposure to the cultural, historical and environmental landmarks in Denmark, a good orientation to Danes and foreigners who are interested in learning more about the country, and at the same time,  experience  inter-cultural encounters. Flensburg is the destination of this year's summer excursion.  Bus transport plus entrance to the museum costs  140 kr.  for adults and 25 kroner for children from 0-12 years old.  The bus leaves from Simon Peters Kirke at 9.00 in the morning. We are back to Kolding at 5 p.m.  Flensburg has much a story to tell about Denmark's history and  the areas  surrounding  the castles are exotic places to behold  and  explore as we hold our picnic. Do not forget to bring your lunch boxes and your passport. Call the office if you are interested. We have bus seats  only for 50 persons.

Toner på tværs  2012 on the 29th of September

Toner på tværs 2012 (Inter-cultural voices 2012)  comes to Kolding again on the 29th  of September  from 16.00 - 21.00 at Simon Peters Church. A cultural event, offered to  Danes, new Danes, refugees and immigrants in Kolding and outside Kolding, this program attempts to celebrate our common humanity around the common things that we enjoy in life: songs, music, dance, poems and food. The program starts with a concert in church and all participants are invited to International Buffet. There is time to eat and speak and share our concerns with one another, to make or renew friendships and acquaintances. There is also a possibility for more entertainment while we eat.
